Key Characteristics
Fruit Profile: It produces medium-sized fruit (typically around 1 pound) with vibrant pink skin and distinctive light pink flesh. The flavor is often described as a sweet blend of kiwi and pear with a smooth, ice-cream-like texture.
Pollination: It is widely considered self-pollinating and very fertile, meaning it can set fruit on its own without a second variety nearby. However, hand pollination is often recommended to ensure larger fruit.
Growth Habit: This is a vigorous, fast-growing climbing cactus. It produces large, stunning white nocturnal blooms that can reach over 14 inches across.
Growing & Care Tips
Light: Thrives in full sun (6–8+ hours). In extremely hot climates (above 100°F), providing some afternoon shade can prevent stem scorch.
Water: Unlike desert cacti, dragon fruit prefers consistent moisture. Water deeply but allow the top 2–3 inches of soil to dry out between waterings to avoid root rot.
Soil: Use a very well-draining mix rich in organic matter. A cactus/succulent mix amended with compost or perlite works well.
