La Verne Red Dragon Fruit is a hybrid variety that comes from the genus Hylocereus and the species guatemalensis and another unknown species. It is named after the nursery, where it is grown commercially and sold as plants in Southern California. The growth of this variety is very typical of most Hylocereus guatemalensis species with minimal spines. Once the growth matures, you can identify this variety as segments begin to twist.
